About Canvas

Canvas is a well known piece of software that provides the ability for teachers and educational institutions to easily post cleanly sorted assignments, files, and other educational information. If you are a Penn State student or a student at any number of other institutions, it is highly likely that you are already using Canvas on a daily basis.

What few know however is that Canvas is actually fully open source. Developed By Instructure, Canvas's source code is available on GitHub, with documentation provided to start a production instance of the software as well. Instructure also offers paid options and support to intuitions that are interested in using Canvas without manually deploying their own instances and providing their own support.

The OSSIG currently has a canvas page available here to all Penn State students, with additional Open-Source training materials available on this page.
